Duncan Wright, his wife and three sons emigrated in 1815 from Scotland, where Duncan had been engaged in various branches of the textile industry. His son, Alexander, set up as a carpet weaver in Medway, Mass. in 1826 and subsequently sold the mill and machinery to the Lowell Manufacturing Company. In 1829, Alexander moved to Lowell, Mass. to work for the company and was employed as superintendent.
